Who gets the biggest slice of road budget?

Department of Transport and Communications gets the biggest increase of Expenditure Budget for 2010.

MEXICO, November 19, 2009.- Department of Transport and Communications gets the biggest increase of the Federation’s Expenditure Budget for 2010

Transport and Communications budget goes from 61,600 millions pesos in its original offer, to 80,500 millions pesos in the budget approve by Chamber of Deputies, that means an increase of 31%.

Department of Transport and Communications will represent from 8% to 10.3% of expenditure budget, just under education (27%) and health care (11.48%).

The increase of 18,900 millions pesos in communications and transport could be explain with the current need of resources for construction projects and modernization of roads. 

Investment in Mexican roads is necessary, because of two main reasons: first, the country needs good communication roads, and will help improving jobs and propel economy in the current crisis context. 

Who are de winners?

Enrique Peña Nieto, governor of Mexico State (Edomex) is the winner in construction projects and roads modernization. He gets 1,672 millions pesos, after governor ask for 660 millions pesos. 

Mexico State (Edomex) goes from having a medium size budget, lower than Zacatecas, Oaxaca, Jalisco and Tabasco, to score in second place, just behind Jalisco, the other winner.
 
Mexico State (Edomex), Jalisco and Chiapas are the states that get more budgets for building roads. Chiapas increase 447%, Edomex 486% and Jalisco 226%. (El Semanario Agencia ESA)
